Key Players in 2023
KL Rahul

Right-handed batsman and occasional wicketkeeper, Kannanur Lokesh (KL) Rahul made his IPL debut in 2013, with Royal Challengers Bangalore. He represented India in the ICC U-19 World Cup in 2011, and became the first player from Karnataka to score a triple century in the Ranji Trophy.
He joined Kings XI Punjab in 2020, and was appointed the side’s captain that year. Since then, he has led the side to the playoffs and is also on the hunt for the Orange Cap this season.
During the IPL 2022, KL Rahul has been in great form with the bat and is arguably one of the best batsmen in IPL history. He is a destructive right-hander and holds the record for the most runs scored by an Indian batsman in the IPL.
His batting is a revelation and his average in the IPL is way ahead of Virat Kohli’s for both ODIs and Tests. He is a master of timing and hitting the ball out of the park.
In the IPL, he has scored 4 centuries and is the 10th player to do so for 2 different IPL teams. This is a very rare feat and is testament to his quality with the bat.
He has made a good start to this season with 4 half-centuries and a century against Mumbai Indians. His team is also on track to win their second game of the season against Punjab. He is a dangerous hitter against spinners and his average has skyrocketed in the last two years.

He plays for India at international level and for Karnataka in domestic circuit. He is currently the vice-captain of the Indian team and leads Lucknow Super Giants in the IPL. He is ranked among the top batsmen in Test and ODI cricket.
The 29-year-old has also smashed several records in his career. He holds the record of being the first Indian to score a century in his ODI debut, as well as the fastest 100 in T20. He is also the only opening batsman to have scored a century in all three formats of cricket.
He is a hard-hitting opener, who likes to play ground strokes initially and then switch over to the aerial shots once he has set up his strike. He has a bottom-hand grip that allows him to play both ground and aerial shots with ease. He also has a good body position that gives him plenty of time to play his shot with ease.
Nicholas Pooran

A ferocious hitter and one of the most dangerous batsmen in T20 cricket, Nicholas Pooran is a rising star for West Indies. He was named as a member of the 2019 World Cup squad and has made a strong start to his international career, scoring his first ODI century against Sri Lanka in 2019.
The 26-year-old is also known for his ability to bowl well against spin. When fast wrist spinners pitch the ball short, Pooran rocks back quickly and cuts or pulls square of the wicket. He is equally decisive when the ball is pitched up.
He has also shown his potential in the IPL, where he scored a maiden IPL hundred for Kings XI Punjab and also took a sensational boundary save against Rajasthan Royals in an enthralling four-wicket win.
When he is playing for the Windies, he is a crucial asset in the middle overs as his sustained acceleration of runs and aggressive approach ensure that his team stays in the game throughout the innings. It’s this quality that led him to become the white-ball captain for the West Indies in the aftermath of Kieron Pollard’s retirement.
Pooran has a brilliant technique and stroke play against spin, which is why he can be a valuable member of the West Indies batting line-up. He has a superb range against leg and left arm spin, and his strike rate against wrist spinners is a little under 44. He is also a master of the sweep shot and a dangerous batsman against off-spin.
Quinton de Kock
Born on December 17, 1992 in Johannesburg, South Africa, Quinton de Kock is a left hand batsman and wicketkeeper. He has captained the Proteas in all three formats, currently playing for the Titans at the domestic level and Lucknow Super Giants in the Indian Premier League.
He has a rich heritage of international cricket having played in the Under-19 and World Cups for South Africa. He also played for Gauteng and Highveld Lions at the domestic level, as well as for Sunrisers Hyderabad, Delhi Daredevils(Delhi Capitals) and Royal Challengers Bangalore(RCB) in the IPL.
His quick batting and sharp skills behind the stumps have earned him comparisons to former South African skipper Mark Boucher, as well as Adam Gilchrist. He is regarded as one of the best young cricketers in the world and has been named as the next great South African player.
He first came to prominence in 2012, when he was part of the South African U-19 side that topped the ICC Under-19 World Cup in Australia. He was a standout performer in the tournament, scoring 284 runs from six matches.
After that, he became an established part of the South Africa ODI squad, and scored a century against Pakistan in Abu Dhabi in 2013. He followed that up with three consecutive ODI hundreds against India, equalling what was then a world record for the most successive ODI centuries by a player from his home country.

Final Thoughts
Lucknow Super Giants is one of the two new teams that have been added to IPL 2023 roster, alongside Ahmedabad. Owned by RPSG Group, the team is based in Lucknow and will play its home matches at BRSABV Ekana Cricket Stadium.
The batting line-up is stacked with all-rounders and includes KL Rahul, Quinton de Kock, Manish Pandey, Manan Vohra and Ayush Badoni. The team has a good mix of young and experienced players and will be captained by KL Rahul.
LSG’s batting line-up is one of the best in the league and has players who can make an impact at any stage in a match. In particular, their top order is loaded with players who can accumulate runs and then fire off at the death.
They also have a good mix of bowlers and have multiple options at each position. They have pacers like Mohsin Khan, Jason Holder, Avesh Khan and spinners Krishnappa Gowtham and Krunal Pandya to compliment them in different situations.
A few glaring weaknesses in the team include an injury to Mark Wood and a poor batting record of Kyle Mayers. In the absence of these players, it will be important to look for other options to fill in the gap.
The franchise made some smart buys in the auction and has a strong Indian core in the likes of KL Rahul, Quinton de Kock, Nicholas Pooran, Deepak Hooda, Krunal Pandya, Krishnappa Gowtham, and Daniel Sams. They also have some quality overseas all-rounders and a fast-finishing spinner in Ravi Bishnoi.
