Gujarat Titans (GT) Squad IPL 2023-Full List, Schedule, Highlight, Betting Tips

Background Preview

The Gujarat Titans is a team in the Indian Premier League (IPL) that plays in the city of Ahmedabad. It is owned by CVC Capital Partners, which is a Europe-based company.

The team is named after the state of Gujarat, which is a rich source of Indian cricket history. It has produced numerous Indian international players and is also one of the oldest franchises in the IPL.

As the IPL continues to expand, the league will also see a rise in its number of teams. In fact, there will be 10 teams in the tournament in 2022.

The IPL will feature two new teams, including the Gujarat Titans. The new franchise will play against the Rajasthan Royals and the Delhi Capitals. Among the other teams that will be involved in the tournament are the Kolkata Knight Riders, the Royal Challengers Bangalore, the Mumbai Indians, the Chennai Super Kings and the Sunrisers Hyderabad.

Although the Gujarat Titans did not make a lot of moves in the auction, they did sign several new players. They purchased West Indies all-rounder Odean Smith and New Zealand skipper Kane Williamson. Other players included KS Bharat and Shivam Mavi.

Earlier in the season, the team had an impressive 8 wins out of their first nine matches. However, they were predicted to finish in the bottom half of the points table. Despite this, the team showed its cohesion in the tournament.

There were some concerns about the batting department. However, Hardik Pandya led the team to the title. He also rotated his bowlers to make the most of their strengths.

Considering the talent on offer, the Gujarat Titans have a good chance to be the next winners of the IPL. While the team’s top batsmen are not experienced, the management seems to have backed players well.

The team’s top bowlers include Mohammad Shami and Lockie Ferguson. Though the former was signed for Rs 10 crore, he has remained a consistent performer in the IPL. Yash Dayal also has an excellent record in the competition and will be heavily relied on in the absence of Jason Roy.

  • Srika Bharat
  • Mohit Sharma
  • Odean Smith

Kane Williamson

  • Playing Role: Top order Batter
  • Batting Style: Right hand Bat
  • Purchase Price: ₹2 crore

Being the captain of New Zealand national cricket team, Kane Williamson will be definitely the refreshment of GT in IPL 2023.

Kane Williamson is without a doubt one of the best batsmen on the New Zealand team, with a fast and consistent batting style and scoring a century in his first Test as early as 20 years old. Kane Williamson is good at dealing with the speed and spin of the ball.

He is not easily affected by the menacing bowler. His brisk scoring rhythm makes him the top 5 hitters in the New Zealand team.

For GT, who is somewhat lacking in batting ability, the addition of Kane Williamson makes the performance of this young IPL team in the 2023 season exciting.

Joshua Little

  • Playing Role: Bowler
  • Bowling Style: Left arm Fast medium
  • Purchase Price: ₹4.4 crore

Joshua Little scored a hat-trick at the recently concluded T20 World Cup 2022 when he knocked out Kane Williamson, James Nisham and Mitchell Santner in the 19th innings in Adelaide, New Zealand.

Becoming the first Irish cricketer ever to be picked in an IPL auction, Joshua Little is an active left arm seamer from Dublin. In seven matches at the T20 World Cup, Little picked up 11 wickets at an economy rate of 7.00. He averages 20.46 at an economy of 7.34 in T20s.

Shivam Mavi

  • Playing Role: Allrounder
  • Bowling Style: Right arm fast medium

Shivam Mavi represents just how far India have come in the realm of fast-bowling. An important member of the team that lifted the 2018 ICC U19 World Cup, Mavi had jaws dropping in India’s opening game itself, constantly hitting speeds in excess of 140 kph to hurry an entire generation of Australian batsmen bred on fast, bouncy pitches.

The base price for Mavi was Rs. 40 Lakh, the highest for an Indian uncapped players. Kolkata Knight Riders opened the bidding kept and stayed in the race till Rs. 1 crore.

Lucknow Super Giants and Rajasthan Royals entered the race later before Gujarat Giants launched aggressive bids for the player. Delhi Capitals entered the race too but it was the defending champion that sealed the signing for six crore.

Urvil Patel

  • Batting Style: Right hand Bat
  • Fielding Position: Wicket Keeper
  • Purchase Price: ₹20 lakh

As a young player, Urvil Patel’s performance after entering GT is very exciting. Despite not having much experience at the top level, at age 19 he finished a round with a smashing 54-ball 96, including 12 fours and four sixes.

KS Bharat

  • Batting Style: Right hand Bat
  • Fielding Position: Wicket Keeper
  • Purchase Price: ₹1.2 crore

Release by the Dehli Capitals ahead the IPL 2023 auction, Srikar Bharat eventually was traded to GT with ₹1.2 crore.

KS Bharat is among the popular names in domestic cricket and has been travelling with the Indian Test squad for a while as a backup option behind the stumps. Bharat did play a few IPL games for the RCB in the 2021 season and was impressive at the top.

Odean Smith

  • Playing Role: Allrounder
  • Batting Style: Right hand Bat
  • Bowling Style: Right arm Fast medium
  • Purchase Price: ₹ 50 Lakhs

Odean Smith, the West Indies medium-fast bowling all-rounder, was bought by the Gujarat Titans for INR 50 Lakhs at the IPL 2023 mini-auctions held in Kochi on Friday, December 23.

Smith was one of the six players in Set 2, designed for all-rounders, which comprised his West Indies teammate Jason Holder, England’s Ben Stokes and Sam Curran, Bangladesh star Shakib Al Hasan, Australia’s Cameron Green and Zimbabwe’ Sikandar Raza.

He had a mixed IPL debut against the Royal Challengers Bangalore, returning 0/52 in four overs with the ball, before he helped the Kings chase down 206 with an over to spare with a blistering 25* off 8.

He was at the receiving end of Andre Russell’s onslaught in his next outing, and later against Rahul Tewatia, who smashed him for two back-to-back sixes to complete one of the most epic finishes in IPL history.

Mohit Sharma

  • Playing Role: Bowler
  • Bowling Style: Right arm medium
  • Purchase Price: ₹ 50 Lakhs

To Mohit Sharma, accuracy is his strongest suit, as he bowls a tight line and length regardless of the batsmen, pitch or ground conditions. In the IPL, his ability to bowl consistently in the channel around off stump stood out more than anything else. That allowed him to be one of the best Powerplay bowlers in the tournament.

CVC Capital Partners, the owner of the Gujarat Titans, have made some big moves. The most prominent one is acquiring Joshua Little. He was the first Irish player to make an appearance in the cash rich Indian Premier League.

Gujarat Titans 2022 performance

The Gujarat Titans’ performance in the IPL 2022 has been nothing short of phenomenal. They were the first team to qualify for the playoffs and then beat the Rajasthan Royals in the final game to win their debut season. Their victory was deserved, as they had shown a tremendous attitude throughout the entire season.

Hardik Pandya was the star of the show, as he made a whirlwind comeback to form, delivering a sensational performance in the match. He took three wickets in the match to help Gujarat beat the Rajasthan Royals by seven wickets.

The bowling attack of the Gujarat Titans has been a major source of contention. With Mohammed Shami leading the way, the Titans have taken 19 wickets in the league stage. Another key performer has been Rahul Tewatia, who has contributed with quick cameos.

The Gujarat Titans have won four games in their first six matches. They are ranked first in the IPL 2022 table with 16 points from 11 games. A total of nine of these victories have been in chases.

In the final against the Rajasthan Royals, the Titans were in control throughout the chase. Their batters delivered an aggressive innings to chase down a target of 131. However, the Rajasthan top order played crucial knocks to keep the scoreboard ticking.

Hardik Pandya’s batting was also a strong factor. He scored 34 runs and three wickets to guide his team to victory. After a slow start, he was in excellent form, as he took wickets of Jos Buttler, Sanju Samson, and Jasprit Bumrah.

The Gujarat Titans have also shown their resilience, as they have bounced back after an initial setback. They have won their last three games. Earlier in the season, they lost to the SRH. However, they defeated Delhi Capitals, Punjab Kings, and Kolkata Knight Riders.

Gujarat has been criticized for their middle-order finishers. However, they have been able to overcome this criticism with their aggression. Whether it is Rahul Tewatia or Hardik Pandya, the middle-order players have been consistent.

While the rest of the Indian Premier League has gone on to a bitter end, the Titans’ performance in IPL 2022 has surpassed all expectations.
